Cherry Hill has a written portable-storage rule: PODs need a zoning permit, a hard surface, ten-foot setbacks and stay within a 30-day limit. Steedle Portable Storage rents 16-foot (8×8) containers for $150 per month, delivered from our yard at 1152 Crown Point Road in West Deptford. If the Township’s rules do not fit your lot or your timeline, we can hold the loaded container at our warehouse instead. Call (856) 848-4854 for a free estimate. Family-owned since 1918.
Cherry Hill’s history page traces the Township back to Waterford Township in 1695 and to Delaware Township in 1844, when it became part of the new Camden County. Its Barclay Farmstead pages say that in the 1950s a builder bought much of the old Barclay farm and developed it into the Barclay Farm residential community. Whatever the neighborhood, the ten-foot setbacks below are what decide whether a box fits on your lot.
The Township’s “Temporary Storage Containers” guidance and its zoning ordinance treat PODs as a permitted accessory use in all zones, for non-disposable items, when the dwelling’s occupant is using one temporarily and has a zoning permit. The ordinance’s limits are:
Zoning permits can be submitted online or by mail to the Department of Community Development, Room 202, 820 Mercer Street. The Township says zoning permit applications need a notarized Consent of Owner if the applicant is not the owner of record. Cherry Hill has no separate POD application form; the form to use is the Township’s Residential Zoning Permit Application (PDF), a general zoning form with a $50.00 application fee printed on it, and the PODS Permit Guidance linked below explains what to submit with it.

Township guidance: Temporary Storage Containers (PODS Permit Guidance) and the Zoning page. For an HOA, check its rules separately; the Township permit does not replace them.
On-site is a good match when you have the permit, a deep enough driveway, and a project with a clear end date, such as a renovation under an open building permit, a short decluttering push, or a move. See on-site portable storage.
The warehouse is the better answer for a shallow lot where ten-foot setbacks are impossible, a project that outlasts 30 days without a building permit, or a property with no hard-surface drive. Nearby, we also serve Voorhees and Moorestown from West Deptford.
The Township’s rule is for non-disposable items, which matches how people use these: furniture, boxed household goods, and the contents of a room being renovated. Keep out anything illegal, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants and pets. No interior modifications. Optional packing and loading.
Yes. The Township says a POD requires a zoning permit before installation. Its residential zoning permit fee is listed at $50. Call Community Development at (856) 488-7870 for the current process.
Thirty days, or the time an active building permit is open on the property, not to exceed 190 days. For longer, we can keep the container at our West Deptford warehouse.
On concrete, asphalt or another impervious surface, not on lawn. It must be at least 10 feet from side and rear lot lines, and from the right-of-way if it is in the front driveway, and it cannot block a sidewalk or access.
No. The ordinance says PODs are not permitted in the street or right-of-way.
No. The ordinance allows only one portable storage container per lot.
The Township’s guidance asks for a survey or aerial photo of your property showing where the POD will go and its distance from the property lines, plus how long you expect to keep it. The container is $150 per month for a 16-foot (8×8) size, and illegal items, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants and pets cannot go inside.
