How a container is used in Woodbury
The City’s website calls Woodbury one of the oldest “small cities” in the country, dating its beginning to 1683, and says Woodbury has been the county seat of Gloucester County for over two centuries. The City established a historic district in 1977, and its Historic Preservation Commission reviews proposed exterior changes to properties in that district. In a small city with older streets, the first practical question is usually where a container can go, not whether you need one.
- Tell us about your lot. Is there a driveway, a side lot, a rear access? We will tell you honestly whether a 16-foot box looks workable.
- We deliver from West Deptford. Steedle brings the container to private property you control. You do not tow or reposition it.
- Load over time. A renovation, an estate-style clear-out, or a move can run for weeks.
- Use the warehouse when space is tight. Where there is no good place to set a box, we keep the loaded container at 1152 Crown Point Road and bring it back when you are ready. See off-site portable storage.
Who to call in Woodbury before placing a box
We did not find an ordinance that names portable storage containers. The City’s published list of frequently used ordinances covers items such as dog and cat licensing, trash receptacle placement, littering and abandoned vehicles; it does not cover storage containers. The full City code is on Municode, and we could not run a complete search of it, so treat this as “not found,” not “not regulated.” The City’s Code Enforcement page says its office handles zoning applications, sidewalk permits, fence permits, planning board submissions and historic preservation applications (a notice on that page is dated 2016, so confirm the current process by phone). Because a container on a street or sidewalk could touch several of those, call before any placement outside your own property line.

The City’s code is online at Municode, and the Historic Preservation Commission page explains district review. If your block has an HOA or condominium association, its rules are separate from the City’s.
On-site or at our warehouse
On-site works where there is a driveway or private yard that fits the box. It suits a kitchen or bath renovation or a move loaded over several evenings. See on-site portable storage.
The warehouse is a good answer for blocks with little off-street room. It is also a good fit for a decluttering project you want out of sight. See off-site portable storage. We cover nearby Deptford and Washington Township from the same yard. The City’s history page notes that Woodbury was part of Deptford Township before it was incorporated in 1854.
What belongs in the box
Furniture, boxed household goods, antiques you want protected during construction, and the contents of a room under renovation. Keep out anything illegal, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants and pets. No interior modifications. Optional packing and loading.
Woodbury portable storage: common questions
Does Woodbury regulate portable storage containers?
We did not find an ordinance that names portable storage containers. For any placement near a street or sidewalk, call the Zoning Officer at (856) 845-1300 ext. 132 or Code Enforcement at ext. 127 first.
Is Steedle’s yard in Woodbury?
No. Our yard and warehouse are at 1152 Crown Point Road, West Deptford, NJ 08093. We deliver to Woodbury addresses from there.
Does the historic district affect a container?
The City says proposed exterior changes and alterations to properties in the historic district must be reviewed by the Historic Preservation Commission. We did not see anything in the City’s materials that addresses containers in the district, so if your property is in it, ask Code Enforcement before booking.
Who handles sidewalk permits?
According to the City’s Code Enforcement page, sidewalk permits are processed by the Woodbury Office of Code Enforcement at 33 Delaware Street, (856) 845-1300 ext. 127.
What if I have no driveway?
We can hold the loaded 16-foot container at our West Deptford warehouse for $150 per month and bring it back or to a new address when you are ready.
Can I store antiques and furniture, and what is off limits?
Furniture and boxed household goods are what the container is for. Illegal items, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants and pets are not allowed, and the interior cannot be modified.
