Off-Site Portable Storage

Need an off-site location for your items to stay for a while? We can help with that.

How Off-Site Container Storage Works

Off-site storage keeps the easy part — loading at your own door, on your own time — and removes the part nobody likes, which is a container parked in front of the house for months. We deliver the 16-foot (8×8) box to your address, you fill it there, and then Steedle picks the loaded container up and takes it to our own warehouse at 1152 Crown Point Road in West Deptford. It waits there, and we bring it back to you when you need it.

How you use the container when it is stored off-site

  1. The box comes to you first. Call for a free estimate and set a delivery date; the clean, dry 16-ft (8×8) container arrives at the house so nothing has to be carried into a truck and then out of it again at a facility. Your things get handled twice, not four times.
  2. Load knowing the doors will close for a while. This is the difference from a driveway unit: pack it for a stretch you will not be opening. Group by room, box the small items, and put anything you might want sooner — a season of clothes, a tool box, the kids’ things — last and nearest the doors.
  3. Make a note of what went in. A phone photo of each wall of the load and a short list on your phone saves a redelivery later. Once the box is at the yard, “is the drill in there?” is a question you want to answer from the couch.
  4. We collect it and drive it to West Deptford. On your date we pick the loaded container up and move it to our facility at 1152 Crown Point Road. You never tow, hitch or move it — Steedle does every move, both directions.
  5. It waits at our yard for a month or a year. The driveway is clear, the house photographs clean, and the contractor gets the space back.
  6. Call and we bring it back. The same container is redelivered to your address, or to a new address if you have moved in the meantime, and you unload at your pace before we take the empty box away.

What belongs in the box when it goes to the warehouse

Best suited to things you are putting away, not dipping into: whole rooms of furniture, mattresses and bed frames, boxed books, kitchenware and dishes, clothing and linens, rugs, framed art, electronics, holiday decorations, off-season sports gear, and the contents of a basement, attic or garage you are clearing for good.

Keep out of the container: anything illegal, and anything no storage unit should hold — flammables and fuel, propane tanks, perishable food, plants and pets. Also keep out what you cannot be without for a while: passports and documents, medication, tax files, chargers, tools you use weekly. And the unit cannot be modified — no shelving bolted in, no hooks, no drilling or cutting inside — so stack sturdy boxes and heavy items low instead.

Why off-site instead of leaving it in the driveway

Off-site is the right call when the driveway is short, shared or needed for cars; when the house is being listed and you want the exterior photos clean; when a renovation crew needs every foot of the property for a dumpster and materials; when you are between homes and have no property to put a box on; and when the storage will run long enough that you are not going to open the doors weekly anyway.

On-site still makes sense if you want to be able to walk out and get things — and you are not locked in either way. Plenty of jobs start with the container on-site while it is being filled, then move to 1152 Crown Point Road, West Deptford once the loading is done. If you need something while it is with us, call and we will arrange access or a redelivery.

Optional packing and loading

You load at your own pace before the pickup date — a weekend, a couple of weeks, whatever the delivery-to-collection window needs to be. Packing and loading are available as optional services, which helps most on off-site jobs, since a load that is going to sit for months is worth packing properly the first time: wrapped furniture, sound boxes, nothing balanced on nothing. Ask when you call for your estimate.

$125 a month — call to schedule

Portable storage is $125 per month, short or long term, so a two-month stay while a house sells and a year in our yard are both normal.
