How a container works for a Deptford house

The Township’s own history page says Deptford’s population grew quickly after World War II as neighborhoods such as Woodbury Gardens, Hammond Heights, Lake Tract, Country Club Estates, Cooper Village and Oak Valley were built, and it describes Oak Valley’s homes as a mix of cape cod, ranch and split-level styles from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Houses like that tend to hold decades of belongings, and a container gives you a place to put them while you work.

1. Call us first. Tell us the street and what the box is for. We give you a free estimate and talk through where the container could sit.
2. We bring the box. Steedle delivers the container to your driveway from West Deptford. You do not tow or reposition it.
3. Load over days, not hours. Clear the basement, empty a room before new flooring, or pack a move a few boxes at a time. The container stays on your property until you tell us you are done.
4. Keep it in the drive, or send it to our warehouse. If you need the driveway back, we can hold the loaded container at 1152 Crown Point Road and bring it to you or to a new address later. See off-site portable storage.

Where the box can sit — and who to call in Deptford

We place containers on private property, usually the driveway, whenever we can. We did not find an ordinance that names portable storage containers in the Deptford materials we checked, which were Chapter 10 of the Township Code and the 2024 Unified Development Ordinance. Chapter 10 does have a Trailers section (§ 10-6). It prohibits trailers except for emergency housing, construction office sales units, construction storage trailers and recreational concession trailers, and its definitions describe wheel-mounted or towed units. It does not mention portable storage containers, so we will not guess how Code Enforcement reads it. Before any delivery that might touch the street or a sidewalk, call the Township and ask.

• Planning & Zoning (Community Development) — (856) 845-5300 ext. 2248, the Zoning Officer line. The Township says this office helps residents with zoning and planning questions. A drop box outside the front door of the Municipal Building can be used for permit paperwork.
• Code Enforcement — (856) 845-5300 ext. 2245
• Township Clerk — (856) 686-2203 (ordinances and official records)

Read the rules yourself: Deptford Code, Chapter 10 (Building and Housing). If you live in an association community, check its rules too; a township answer does not replace them.

Keeping the box at home or at the warehouse

At home: choose this when you will be in and out of the container, such as a decluttering push, a renovation that moves one room at a time, or a move you load in the evenings. See on-site portable storage.

At our warehouse: choose this if the driveway is short, a contractor needs the space, or you would rather not leave a box at the house. We keep the container at 1152 Crown Point Road in West Deptford. Read more about off-site storage. Nearby towns are covered on our Woodbury and Washington Township pages; the Township’s history page notes that the original Deptford once included today’s Woodbury and Washington Township.

What belongs in the box

Household goods, furniture, boxed kitchenware, tools, seasonal decorations and the contents of whichever room you are emptying. Keep out anything illegal, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants and pets. We do not modify the inside of the container. Packing and loading help is optional.

Deptford portable storage: common questions

Does Deptford have an ordinance for portable storage containers?

We did not find an ordinance that names portable storage containers in the Township Code (Chapter 10) or the 2024 Unified Development Ordinance. For a driveway placement, or any placement near a street or sidewalk, call Planning & Zoning at (856) 845-5300 ext. 2248 or Code Enforcement at ext. 2245 before delivery.

Does Deptford’s trailer rule apply to a storage container?

Chapter 10, § 10-6, regulates “trailers,” and its definitions describe wheel-mounted or towed units and construction-site storage trailers. It does not name portable storage containers. We cannot tell you how the Township would classify one, so ask Code Enforcement at ext. 2245.

Is Steedle’s yard in Deptford?

No. Our yard and warehouse are at 1152 Crown Point Road in West Deptford, a separate township. We deliver to Deptford addresses from there.

When can I reach the Township offices?

The Municipal Building at 1011 Cooper Street lists hours of Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The main number is (856) 845-5300.

What does a container cost, and what size is it?

$150 per month for a 16-foot (8×8) container. It suits a basement clear-out, a one-room renovation or a move loaded over several days.

Can I store paint, gas cans or a propane tank in the container?

No. Flammables and fuel, propane, illegal items, perishable food, plants and pets are not allowed in a Steedle container, and we do not modify the interior.
