Portable Storage Rentals in Washington Township, NJ

Portable Storage Units, Storage Containers, Rental Units

In Washington Township, Gloucester County, a portable storage container needs a zoning permit — and Steedle’s 16-foot (8×8) container is $150 per month. The Township has a dedicated PODS/Trailer Permit Application, and a 16-foot box fits under the size limit it lists for residential lots. We deliver from our yard at 1152 Crown Point Road in West Deptford, and we can hold your loaded container there if the permit window runs out before your project does. Call (856) 848-4854 for a free estimate. Family-owned since 1918.

How a container is used in Washington Township

The Township says it has about 48,500 residents, making it Gloucester County’s largest municipality, and it was incorporated on February 17, 1836. Its own pages mention communities such as Turnersville, Hurffville and Cross Keys. With that many households, projects vary from a one-room refresh to a full move, and the permit clock matters for all of them.

  1. Get the permit first. Download the PODS/Trailer Permit Application (PDF, 2023 form) from the Township’s Planning & Zoning page. Per the form, the Zoning Officer has ten business days to review a complete application and sends the permit by email. The form asks for the unit type and size; ours is a 16-foot container.
  2. We deliver once you are approved. The container comes from West Deptford to your driveway. You do not tow or move it.
  3. Load within the permit period. The residential permit on the form is valid for one month and must be renewed before it expires.
  4. Need more time? Move it, don’t fight it. If your project will outlast the permit, we can take the loaded container to our warehouse at 1152 Crown Point Road and bring it back when you are ready. See off-site portable storage.

What the Township’s PODS/Trailer permit says — and who to call

This is a Township with a written container rule, so use it. The PODS/Trailer Permit Application (Planning & Zoning, 2023 form) lists these terms for residential property:

  • Maximum length of 20 feet
  • Only one POD or trailer unit on the property at a time
  • Permit valid for one month; you must re-apply before it expires
  • Maximum of five permit renewals per twelve-month period
  • Application fee of $50 for residential (the form lists $250 per unit for commercial)
  • Written consent from the property owner
  • No hazardous material or organic waste in storage units

The form is dated 2023, so confirm the current fee and terms with the office before you apply. The current Township Code is online on eCode360, and the zoning office can tell you which rules apply to your lot. If you belong to a homeowners association, check its rules as well.

On-site vs our warehouse for Washington Township projects

On-site works while you are actively loading: a decluttering weekend, a kitchen or basement renovation, or a move. Because the permit runs month to month, plan the loading around it. See on-site portable storage.

Our warehouse is the better fit when the work will take longer than the permit period, or the driveway cannot hold the box. We also serve nearby Glassboro and Deptford from the same West Deptford yard.

What belongs in the box

Furniture, appliances you are replacing, boxed household goods, seasonal items and renovation contents. Keep out anything illegal, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants and pets. The Township’s form separately bars hazardous material and organic waste from storage units, which is consistent with our rules. We do not modify the container interior. Packing and loading are optional add-ons.

Washington Township portable storage: common questions

Do I need a permit for a portable storage container in Washington Township?

Yes, according to the Township’s PODS/Trailer Permit Application, which is a zoning permit issued through Planning & Zoning. Call (856) 589-0520 ext. 2233 or ext. 2234 to confirm what applies to your address before we schedule delivery.

How big can the container be, and how many can I have?

The Township’s form says a residential unit cannot exceed 20 feet in length and only one unit may be on the property. Our container is 16 feet (8×8).

How long does the permit last?

The form says one month, with a requirement to re-apply before it expires and a maximum of five renewals per twelve-month period. If you need the container longer, ask the zoning office how those limits apply, or we can store it at our West Deptford warehouse.

How much does the permit cost, and how long does approval take?

The form lists $50 for residential, and says the Zoning Officer has ten business days to act on a complete application. The form is from 2023, so confirm the current fee. Apply before you book a delivery date.

How do the Township’s contents rules compare with Steedle’s?

The Township form prohibits hazardous material and organic waste in storage units. Steedle does not allow illegal items, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants or pets, which covers the same ground. No interior modifications.

When can I reach the Washington Township zoning office?

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except it is closed on Fridays from Memorial Day through Labor Day and on federal holidays. The main number is (856) 589-0520.
