Portable Storage Rentals in Mount Laurel, NJ
Mount Laurel has a written portable-storage rule, and it shapes everything about a driveway container here. Steedle Portable Storage rents 16-foot (8×8) containers for $150 per month, delivered from our yard at 1152 Crown Point Road in West Deptford. Under § 154-19.1 of the Township Code, a portable home storage unit needs a permit, goes in the driveway, and is capped at 90 days with extensions. If your project will run longer than that, we can hold the loaded box at our warehouse. Call (856) 848-4854 for a free estimate. Family-owned since 1918.

How the permit and delivery fit together
- Apply at Community Development. The Township’s “Application for a Storage Pod / Trash Container” asks for your block and lot, a description of the unit, two copies of a survey showing existing buildings and the proposed structure location, and an HOA approval letter where one applies. You can download the Dumpster/Pod Permit Application (PDF) from the Township’s website. The permit fee under § 154-19.1 is $25.
- Walk your driveway. The code wants the unit at the furthest accessible point from the street, so look at where a 16-foot box can actually reach. If you have a corner lot or no driveway, the code requires pre-approval of the location from the Township Code Enforcement Officer.
- We deliver once you are approved. Steedle brings the container from West Deptford. You do not tow or reposition it.
- Track the 30-day clock. Extensions are $25 per 30 days and must be requested before the first period ends. The code does not allow more than 90 days in total, except for emergency repairs after a fire or similar event.
- Past 90 days, switch to the warehouse. We can keep the loaded container at 1152 Crown Point Road and bring it back to you or a new address. See off-site portable storage.
What the Mount Laurel code says — and who to call
Section 154-19.1 (“Portable Home Storage Regulations of the Township of Mount Laurel”) defines a portable home storage unit as a portable shed typically loaded with materials and placed on a residential property, and it treats trash dumpsters the same way. The section states that it is aimed at single-family homes and at townhomes owned in fee simple with a driveway on the owned lot. For multifamily dwellings with no dedicated driveway, or where the parking areas belong to a condominium or homeowners association, the code tells owners to follow the association’s rules. New residential construction is exempt from the permit, but the unit must be removed within 30 days of the certificate of occupancy.
The code mentions the street only for roll-off trash containers, which may be approved there when a driveway is impractical, with Police Department pre-approval and a permit of no more than seven days. For storage units, plan on the driveway. The penalty is a fine not to exceed $100, and each day can be a separate violation.

Driveway container or warehouse box?
In the driveway is the Township’s default and works for short, active jobs: a garage and attic clean-out, a one-room renovation, or loading a move over a few weeks. See on-site portable storage.
At our warehouse fits corner lots without a workable driveway, townhome and condominium settings where the association controls parking, and any project that will outlast 90 days. Nearby, we also serve Moorestown and Voorhees from the same West Deptford yard.
What belongs in the box
Boxed household goods, furniture, garage contents, and the belongings from a room under renovation. Keep out anything illegal, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants and pets. No interior modifications. Optional packing and loading are available.
Mount Laurel portable storage: common questions
Do I need a permit for a portable storage container in Mount Laurel?
Yes, for residential property. Section 154-19.1 requires an application and permit from the Township before you place a portable home storage unit, with a $25 fee for a 30-day permit. New residential construction is exempt. Call Community Development at (856) 234-9686 to confirm your situation.
How long can a container stay on my property?
The permit is for 30 days. You can request a 30-day extension for $25 before it expires, but the code does not allow more than 90 days in total, with an exception for emergency home repairs. For longer projects, we can store the container at our West Deptford warehouse.
Where on the property does it have to go?
In the driveway, at the furthest accessible point from the street. The exception is a unit used to receive debris from replacing a residential driveway. If the property is a corner lot or has no driveway, the Code Enforcement Officer must pre-approve the location.
Can the container be placed on the street?
The code describes street placement only for roll-off trash containers, with Police Department pre-approval and a seven-day maximum. Portable home storage units are directed to the driveway. Call the Township before assuming anything else.
How many containers can I have?
One portable home storage unit per residential property at a time, except where more than one is needed for an emergency home repair such as after a fire.
What if I live in a townhome or condo community?
Section 154-19.1 says owners without a dedicated driveway, or whose parking is owned by a condominium or homeowners association, must follow the association’s rules on storage units. The Township application also asks for an HOA approval letter where applicable. Check with your association first.
