Portable Storage Rentals in Delran, NJ
Delran Township names PODs in its code and publishes a one-page Container Permit, and the rules are specific about moves and renovations. Steedle Portable Storage rents a 16-foot (8×8) container for $150 per month, delivered from 1152 Crown Point Road in West Deptford. Chapter 102, Bulk Storage Containers, requires a $25 permit from the Construction Office, 30 days on private property, 14 days on a street, renewals at $15, and proof of $250,000 in liability insurance. The chapter also contradicts itself on the street question, and we flag that below. Call (856) 848-4854 for a free estimate. Family-owned since 1918.

What Chapter 102 says
Chapter 102 uses the words “bulk storage container, storage container, storage device, pod, or similar container.” Here is the structure:
- Private property (§ 102-2). Containers are allowed on a driveway or other suitably paved area (1) for packing or unpacking in connection with moving in or out, for no more than 21 consecutive days, or (2) to store belongings during renovation or rehabilitation of the home, from up to 14 days before work starts to 14 days after it ends, but no more than four months total. Other exceptions can be granted by the Construction Code Official under § 102-5.
- Street (§ 102-1 and § 102-4). § 102-1 says no container may be placed by a private party on any Township property, street or right-of-way. But § 102-4 sets rules for permits for containers “on a street or right-of-way”: a legal, non-handicap parking space, reflectors or safety markings, and a 14-day permit. The two sections do not reconcile, and the Township’s permit form lists “street” among the storage locations. Ask the Construction Office before planning any street placement.
- Permit (§ 102-4). Apply to the Construction Code Official on the Township’s form. The application asks for the container owner, the person contracting for it and the property owner. The fee is $25.
- Duration. A permit for private property is valid for 30 days; for a street or public property, 14 days. A sticker or notice with the start and expiry dates must be displayed at the property.
- Renewals. On a showing of continued need (such as major construction), permits may be renewed up to three times for like periods at $15 each. Longer extensions can be requested for $25 under § 102-5, with a decision within five business days.
- Insurance. The property owner or contractor must give the Township proof of liability insurance of at least $250,000.
- Placement. On private property the container goes on a suitable base for stability. If Police find it near a public vehicular or pedestrian path, the permit may require safety markings.
- Penalties (§ 102-7). A fine of $100 to $250, with each day a separate violation. After 10 days’ notice the Township may remove and store a container left in a public place or after expiration, at the owner’s expense.
Permit form, link and contacts
Direct link to the permit: Delran Township Container Permit (PDF), posted on the Construction Office page under the zoning forms. It is a one-page scan asking for block, lot and zone, the property owner, street address, container type (POD, storage box, storage trailer, dumpster), storage location (street, driveway or yard), the company and phone, start and end dates, and notes. No fee is printed on the form. The form does not mention the insurance requirement, so ask about it.

Planning a Delran project
The code is explicit about purpose. A move gets 21 days. A renovation gets the project period plus 14 days either side, up to four months. Plan the dates on the application to match your contractor’s schedule. See on-site portable storage.
If your timeline is longer than four months, or your driveway is not suitable, off-site storage keeps the container at our West Deptford warehouse and out of the permit system. It also suits decluttering. We also serve Cinnaminson and Moorestown nearby.
What belongs in the box
Typical loads are household goods, boxed papers and books, furniture and the contents of rooms being painted, floored or remodeled. Illegal items, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants and pets stay out, and there are no interior modifications. Optional packing and loading are available.Delran portable storage: common questions
Does Delran require a permit for a portable storage container?
Yes. Township Code § 102-4 requires a permit from the Construction Code Official before a pod or storage container is placed on any Township property, street, right-of-way or private property.
How much is the permit and how long does it last?
$25. It is valid for 30 days on private property and 14 days on a street or other public property. Up to three renewals are available at $15 each.
Can I put the container on my driveway?
Yes, under § 102-2, for packing or unpacking during a move (up to 21 consecutive days) or for storage during a renovation (14 days before and after the work, up to four months total).
Can the container go on the street?
The Code is inconsistent: § 102-1 bans containers on Township streets, but § 102-4 sets permit rules for street placement. The permit form also lists street. Call the Construction Office first.
Is insurance required?
Yes. The property owner or contractor must provide proof of liability insurance of at least $250,000 (§ 102-4(C)).
Where is the permit form?
On the Township’s Construction Office page: delrantownship.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Container-Permit.pdf. Return it to the Construction Office at 900 Chester Avenue.
