Portable Storage Rentals in Haddon Heights, NJ
Haddon Heights has a written portable-storage chapter, and it is more specific than most towns in Camden County. Steedle Portable Storage rents 16-foot (8×8) containers for $150 per month, delivered from our yard at 1152 Crown Point Road in West Deptford. Chapter 340 of the Borough Code requires a permit for a POD on private property, limits the stay to 30 days with renewals, and allows one unit per property. When a job will run longer, we can hold the loaded container at our warehouse instead. Call (856) 848-4854 for a free estimate. Family-owned since 1918.

How the permit and delivery fit together
- Check the purpose. Section 340-2 describes two permitted uses on private property: packing or unpacking for a move, and storing your belongings during renovation or rehabilitation of the house. Either one is limited to 30 consecutive days. If you are just clearing space, ask the Construction Office whether that qualifies before you book.
- Apply to the Construction Official. The Borough’s “Dumpster/Pod Permit Application” is on its Forms & Permits page. The chapter sets a $25 fee and asks for the owner of the unit, the owner of the property, and the person contracting for the unit.
- Pick the spot. The code wants the unit on a suitable base, in a driveway or other suitably paved area, at the furthest accessible point from the street. If the Police Department or Borough Engineer thinks the spot is close to an intersection or a pedestrian path, the permit can require reflectors or safety markings.
- We deliver once you have the permit. Steedle brings the container from West Deptford. Put the permit’s sticker or notice, showing the start and end dates, where it can be seen.
- Watch the calendar. The permit is for 30 days. For a continuing need, the Construction Official may renew it up to two more times, 30 days each, for $25 each. A further extension costs $50 and is reviewed within five business days.

What Chapter 340 says — and who to call
Chapter 340 (“Portable Storage Units,” Ord. No. 1514, adopted February 1, 2022) defines a portable storage unit as a container for outdoor storage of personal property, “including a POD or similar storage container,” that is rented for temporary use and delivered and removed by vehicle. That is a direct match for what we rent. A few rules are worth knowing before you order:
- No more than one unit per property, and no more than one permit per property in a twelve-month period, including renewals.
- No hazardous material or organic waste inside, no construction debris, business inventory or commercial goods, and nothing that belongs to someone other than the owner or occupant. The Borough may inspect the contents on reasonable notice.
- A unit may be no larger than 130 square feet in area and no higher than 10 feet. Our box is 16 feet long and 8 feet wide, which is 128 square feet, but confirm the measurement with the Construction Office when you apply.
- The unit must be in good condition, free of rust, tears or holes, and the property owner and the person renting it are jointly responsible for compliance.
- Violations: each day over the permit period is a separate violation, with a fine of up to $2,000, up to 90 days in jail, or up to 90 days of community service.
Street placement is a separate rule. Chapter 340 bars any portable storage unit on Borough property, a street or a right-of-way without a permit from the Chief of Police. Chapter 205 adds that a dumpster or storage container on a street needs a Construction Office permit, and the Borough’s dumpster/pod form says street permission is only for cases where there is “absolutely no space on the property, including driveway.” Street permits on that form carry a $50 fee. A county or state road needs written permission from that agency first. In short: plan on the driveway.
One discrepancy to be aware of: the Borough’s printed form says no fee is required for placement on private property, while Chapter 340 sets $25. Ask the Construction Office which applies when you submit.

A railroad-suburb street, a 30-day clock
The Borough describes itself as a walkable town of about 7,500 residents with tree-lined streets and shops along Station Avenue, laid out in 1890 as a planned “new town” along the railroad and incorporated as a borough in 1904. Because the code puts the unit at the furthest accessible point from the street, walk your own driveway before you order and decide whether a 16-foot box fits there with room for your cars.
In the driveway is what Chapter 340 contemplates, and it suits a short job: loading a move over a few weeks, or emptying rooms for a renovation. See on-site portable storage.
At our warehouse is the better fit when the 30-day limit is tight, when the one-permit-per-twelve-months rule has already been used on your lot, or when you are mostly decluttering and do not want a box in the yard. The loaded container stays at 1152 Crown Point Road until you want it back. See off-site portable storage. We also serve neighboring Haddonfield, Audubon and Barrington from the same yard.
What belongs in the box
Boxed household goods, furniture, garage and basement contents, and the belongings from a room under renovation all fit well. Keep out anything illegal, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants and pets. No interior modifications. Optional packing and loading are available.Haddon Heights portable storage: common questions
Do I need a permit for a portable storage container in Haddon Heights?
Yes, on private property. Chapter 340 requires you to apply to the Borough Construction Official and pay $25 before placing a portable storage unit, and it names PODs specifically. Call the Construction Office at (856) 547-7164 ext. 33 to confirm the current paperwork.
How long can the container stay?
The permit is valid for 30 days. The Construction Official may renew it twice, 30 days each, for $25 per renewal when there is a continuing need, and a further extension costs $50. Only one permit, including renewals, may be issued for a property in any twelve-month period.
Can I put the container on the street?
Not without Borough approval. Chapter 340 requires a permit from the Chief of Police for any unit on Borough property, a street or a right-of-way, and the Borough’s form says street permission is only given when there is no room on the property at all, driveway included. Plan on the driveway.
What does the Borough say the container is for?
Chapter 340 describes two uses on private property: packing or unpacking for a move, and storing your belongings during renovation or rehabilitation of the house. It may not hold construction debris, business inventory or someone else’s property.
Is there a size limit?
A unit may be no larger than 130 square feet in area and no higher than 10 feet. Our 16-foot container has a 16-by-8-foot footprint, which is 128 square feet. Ask the Construction Office to confirm when you file.
What if the limit runs out before my project does?
Steedle can move the loaded container to our West Deptford warehouse at 1152 Crown Point Road and bring it back to you or to a new address later. That keeps you inside the 30-day window without losing your storage.
