Portable Storage Rentals in Haddon Township, NJ

Portable Storage Units, Storage Containers, Rental Units

Haddon Township is one of the stricter towns for portable storage in our area: PODs are named in the Township Code, and the time limits are short. Steedle Portable Storage rents 16-foot (8×8) containers for $150 per month, delivered from our yard at 1152 Crown Point Road in West Deptford. Under § 186-10, a container on private property is allowed for moving or renovation use only, on a driveway or paved area, on a 10-day permit. If your project will run longer than the Township allows, we can keep the loaded container at our warehouse. Call (856) 848-4854 for a free estimate. Family-owned since 1918.

What Haddon Township’s Code requires

Article IV of Chapter 186 (Property Maintenance), § 186-10, covers “bulk storage containers, storage containers, storage devices, ‘pods,’ or similar” containers. In plain terms:

  • Street vs driveway. No private party may place or keep a pod on any Township property, street or right-of-way. On private property it must go on a driveway or other suitably paved area, on a stable base.
  • Purpose. A move (packing or unpacking, for not more than 10 consecutive days) or renovation or rehabilitation of the structure where your belongings would normally be.
  • Renovation window. Storage during renovation may begin up to 10 days before the work starts and run until 10 days after it is finished. The Construction Code Official may extend it, but never past a total of 60 days.
  • Permit. The container requires a permit from the Township before it is placed. Permits for private property are valid for 10 days and may be renewed up to three times for up to five days each, when there is a continuing need such as major construction. A sticker or notice with the start and end dates must be displayed on the street side of the container.
  • Fee. The ordinance says there is no application fee for a container on private property. Renewals are $15 each under Chapter 111, § 111-43. The $25 fee in that section applies to containers on public property.
  • Safety. If the Township police decide the location is near a public vehicle or pedestrian path, the permit may require reflectors or safety markings.
  • Responsibility. The container owner and the property owner are jointly responsible for compliance.

We did not find the fine amounts in this article, so we are not quoting one. The Township form says to see Ordinance #1212 for fees, fines, deadlines and violations.

How to apply, and what the Township form asks

  1. Fill out the Township’s “Bulk Storage Container/POD” permit for private property. It asks for the property address and owner, the container owner, the exact location where the container will be placed, the start and end dates, and the purpose (moving or renovations), with the owner’s authorization.
  2. Give them five days. The form asks for five days of processing before your start date, so apply before you book your delivery date.
  3. Tell us the approved dates. We deliver from West Deptford to match the permit; the 10-day window is short, so ask us to schedule the delivery and pickup as close to it as the Township allows.

Why a short permit changes how you plan

The Township sends pod permits to a separate Annex Building on Reeve Avenue, asks for five days of processing, and then issues a 10-day permit. That sequence rewards planning: the permit clock is short, so you want your boxes packed and your helpers lined up before the container arrives. It is built for a quick job, such as the last weekend of a move or the days around a kitchen demolition, not for a month of slow decluttering.

On the driveway is the right call for a move where you load over a long weekend, or for a renovation where the work is on a clear schedule. Ask the Construction Code Official in advance about the renovation extension. See on-site portable storage.

At our warehouse is the right call when you need weeks, not days. That includes a long clean-out, a house sale with a staged showing, or any project the Township cannot extend. The box stays at 1152 Crown Point Road and comes back when you ask. See off-site portable storage. We also serve Haddonfield and Collingswood nearby, each with different local rules.

What belongs in the box

Think furniture, mattresses, boxed belongings, tools and the overflow from a garage or spare room. The box is not the place for anything illegal, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants or pets, and the interior cannot be modified. If you want loading help, packing and loading are available as an option.

Haddon Township portable storage: common questions

Do I need a permit for a portable storage container in Haddon Township?

Yes. Section 186-10 of the Township Code requires a permit before a bulk storage container or “pod” goes on private property, and the Township has a Bulk Storage Container/POD Permit form for it. The Code says there is no application fee for private property.

How long can the container stay on my driveway?

The private-property permit is valid for 10 days. It can be renewed up to three times for up to five days each when there is a continuing need, at $15 per renewal. For renovation storage, the Construction Code Official may extend the period, but not past a total of 60 days.

Can the container go on the street in Haddon Township?

No. The Code bars private parties from placing a pod on any Township property, street or right-of-way. Containers belong on a driveway or other suitably paved area on private property.

What are the allowed reasons for a container?

Packing or unpacking in connection with moving into or out of the property, or storing belongings while the structure is being renovated or rehabilitated. For renovations, storage can start 10 days before the work and continue until 10 days after it is finished.

How far ahead should I apply?

The Township’s form asks for five days of processing before your start date. Apply first, then schedule our delivery for the approved dates.

What if the Township timeline is too short for my project?

Steedle can keep the loaded container at our West Deptford warehouse, 1152 Crown Point Road, and bring it back when your project is ready. A 16-foot (8×8) container is $150 per month.
