Portable Storage Rentals in Haddonfield, NJ
In Haddonfield, the Borough Code speaks clearly about the street and says little about the driveway. Steedle Portable Storage rents 16-foot (8×8) containers for $150 per month, delivered from our yard at 1152 Crown Point Road in West Deptford. We did not find an ordinance that names portable storage containers or sets a permit for them on private property, but the Code does prohibit “storage containers” in streets. So we keep the box off the road, and we tell you to call the Borough first. Call (856) 848-4854 for a free estimate. Family-owned since 1918.

What we found in the Haddonfield Code
We did not find an ordinance that names portable storage containers and sets a permit, fee or time limit for placing one on private property. We looked at the Borough Code on eCode360 and at the Construction and Zoning Office’s forms. Two things turned up that matter to you:
- Streets. Code § 199-21(C) (Use of Streets) lists “trash receptacles, storage containers, recyclable containers, construction materials” and other objects among those “prohibited at any time from being placed in a street or public thoroughfare utilized by motor vehicles.” There is no permit path in that section. Read it as: no portable storage container on the road, ever.
- Dumpsters are handled separately. The Borough’s trash rules say dumpsters may go in a driveway without a permit, and need Police Department permission for a public roadway. Dumpster permits are issued by the Police Department and applied for online. That page is for dumpsters; we did not find it applies to a portable storage unit, and we are not going to say it does.
The Borough also publishes a Zoning Permit application ($30 at submission, with a scaled survey) for improvements such as additions, sheds and fences. Whether a temporary container needs one is a question for the Zoning Officer; the forms page does not say. If your project involves a construction permit, the Borough’s forms also require a pre-construction video for projects that will place a dumpster, so mention the container when you talk to them.
Permit duration and fee for a portable storage unit: none found. Street vs driveway: driveway only, in practice, because of § 199-21.

If the Construction Office tells you a permit is needed, ask which form to use.
Driveway or warehouse in Haddonfield
The Borough describes itself as a Camden County community minutes from Philadelphia, with a PATCO Speedline station in the downtown district, Hopkins Pond and the Crows Woods Nature Preserve. It also has a Historic Preservation Commission among its boards. With a street ban in the Code, the practical limit on a portable container is your own driveway: how long it is, how close it comes to the sidewalk, and whether the box would sit where your cars usually park.
On your driveway is the natural choice if the Borough has no objection: a few weeks of move loading, or room-by-room renovation storage. See on-site portable storage.
At our warehouse is the safe choice when the driveway is short, the lot is a corner, the house is shared, or the Borough says no. We keep the loaded container at 1152 Crown Point Road, and it is also the answer for decluttering where you want the boxes out of sight. See off-site portable storage. Neighboring Haddon Township and Haddon Heights have their own written portable-storage rules, so do not assume the next town over works the same way.
What belongs in the box
Most people load furniture, boxed kitchenware, seasonal items and the contents of a room that is being redone. Please keep out illegal items, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants and pets, and do not modify the inside of the container. Packing and loading help is optional.Haddonfield portable storage: common questions
Is there a Haddonfield ordinance on portable storage containers?
We did not find an ordinance that names portable storage containers or sets a private-property permit for them. Code § 199-21(C) does prohibit “storage containers” in streets and public thoroughfares used by motor vehicles. Call the Construction and Zoning Office at (856) 429-4700 for a current answer.
Can I put a portable storage container in the street in Haddonfield?
No. The Borough Code prohibits storage containers at any time in a street or public thoroughfare used by motor vehicles, and we found no permit procedure for it. We place containers on private property or hold them at our warehouse.
Do I need a permit for a driveway container in Haddonfield?
We did not find one for portable storage. The Borough’s dumpster permit, issued by the Police Department, is for dumpsters, and the Borough says dumpsters can go in a driveway without a permit. Ask the Zoning Officer whether a container on your lot needs a zoning permit, which the Borough charges $30 to file.
Where is the Borough office I should call?
Borough Hall is at 242 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield, NJ 08033. The Construction and Zoning Office is in Room 104, open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at (856) 429-4700.
What if my driveway is too short or the Borough objects?
We can hold the loaded container at our West Deptford warehouse, 1152 Crown Point Road, and bring it back to you or to a new address when you are ready. Pricing for the container is $150 per month.
How much does it cost and what can’t go inside?
A 16-foot (8×8) container is $150 per month. Illegal items, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants and pets cannot go inside, and there are no interior modifications.
