Portable Storage Rentals in Lumberton, NJ

Portable Storage Units, Storage Containers, Rental Units

Lumberton Township has no ordinance that we could find naming portable storage containers or PODs, so the honest answer is to confirm with the Zoning Officer before you order. Steedle Portable Storage rents a 16-foot (8×8) container for $150 per month, delivered from our yard at 1152 Crown Point Road in West Deptford. The Township’s code has a dumpster permit only for clothing donation bins, not for storage units, and its zoning permits are listed for sheds, decks, fences, pools and patios. A container rental falls in none of those boxes, which is why a phone call helps. Call (856) 848-4854 for a free estimate. Family-owned since 1918.

What we looked at in the Lumberton code

We read the Township of Lumberton Code on eCode360 and the Township’s Construction and Inspection page. We did not find an ordinance that names portable storage containers, storage units or PODs. Here is what we checked and what it covers:

  • Garbage, Rubbish and Refuse (Ch. 162), Brush, Grass and Trash (Ch. 103), Streets and Sidewalks (Ch. 250), Vehicles and Traffic (Ch. 265): no mention of dumpsters, roll-offs, PODs or storage containers.
  • Property Maintenance (Ch. 221): it addresses the visible storage of commercial and industrial equipment and materials, windows exposed to public view, and refuse storage. It does not address rented residential storage units.
  • Clothing Bins (Ch. 119): this is the one chapter that mentions a dumpster permit, but it applies to bins and depositories placed to collect clothing for donation. It requires a permit from the Zoning Officer on application with a sketch plat, dimensions and owner consent. It is not a portable-storage rule, and we do not read it as one.
  • Development Regulations (Ch. 130): it includes accessory buildings and structures, trailers, campers and boats, and buffers (no storage of materials in a buffer area). A rented container is not named.

The Township’s Construction page says a zoning permit is required for sheds, decks, fences, pools and concrete patios, and tells homeowners to call the Construction Office if it is unclear whether a project needs a permit. It does not mention portable storage.

Permit, fee, form and who to call

Because the code is silent, there is no permit, fee, duration limit or application form we can cite, and no direct link to give you. We are not telling you no approval exists, only that we did not find one written down, and a short call settles it.

Lumberton Township Municipal Complex
35 Municipal Drive, Lumberton, NJ 08048
Phone: (609) 267-3217 · Zoning Officer: ext. 133 · Construction Official’s office: ext. 132
Website: lumbertontwp.com (the Township posts seasonal summer hours, with offices closed Fridays from late May to early September, so check before you visit)

When you call, have the basics ready: the property address, that the unit is a 16-foot container measuring 8 feet wide by 8 feet high, the delivery truck, the expected start and end dates, and where on the property it would sit. Getting the answer from the Zoning Officer and noting the date of the call protects you if a neighbor or inspector asks later. Questions worth asking: Does a rented storage container on a residential driveway need any approval? Is there a time limit? Is street placement allowed? Construction & Inspection page.

Driveway or warehouse in Lumberton

Without a written time limit, the safest approach is to keep your project short and put the container on your own driveway, as far from the street as practical. See on-site portable storage, moving and renovations.

If the Township tells you no, or a project will run long, off-site storage at our West Deptford warehouse avoids the question entirely, and it works for decluttering too. Neighbors we serve: Mount Laurel and Medford, which does have a permit.

What belongs in the box

Think furniture, mattresses, boxed belongings, tools and the overflow from a garage or spare room. The box is not the place for anything illegal, flammables and fuel, propane, perishable food, plants or pets, and the interior cannot be modified. If you want loading help, packing and loading are available as an option.
